The "White House"-白房间

 The "White House" is in Pho Bang (Fw Pam) town.

It was constructed with French architecture. Local Chinese residents called it "Bái Fáng Jiān"(白房间). Half of the house is Vaj Zoov Xeeb's inheritance, the other half is his uncle's Vaj Shawm (Vương Đình Thọ).

 

1979, the China-Vietnam Border War broke out (Sino-Vietnamese War), and our family withdrew to Hanoi along with other residents and reserved the area for battle. During this time the White House was bombed by Vietnamese soldiers for gold which was buried under the house's foundation.

 


1990, Ntxhi Vaj and the uncles, on what was left of the building after the bombs.

 

Lately, the Vietnamese government built up a "Culture House" on our collapsed ground, with the purpose of a community center for local people. However, Hmong's tradition is different, so the house was locked due to no visits. And in the backyard of the house, there are still our relatives' tombstones.

2008, Vaj Zoo Xeeb got the house back.

 

In 2010, Ntxhi Vaj (Zoo Xeeb's second daughter) finished restoring all the tombstones behind the house. Among these are the two die-young sons of Vaj Txhiaj Lwm.
